Residency Open Studio: Tanat Teeradakorn
On March 21, CHERUBY presented an open studio by artist-in-residence Tanat Teeradakorn, inviting audiences into his Shanghai workspace where moving image, sound, and everyday traces intersect.
Over the past month, Tanat has been conducting research in Shanghai, focusing on “red tourism” and examining how revolutionary histories are narrated repeatedly but with differences, and how they are embedded within the cityscapes and everyday experience. During the Open Studio, a selection of works in progress will be displayed.
Tanat Teeradakorn is based in Thailand. His practice spans moving image, sound, performance, and installation. Drawing on the display format of merchandising, he examines how cultural tourism, historical narratives, and national identity are constructed, packaged, and circulated.
This open studio brought together practitioners and researchers from art, music, fashion, and journalism, alongside participants from the city’s underground cultural scenes. Through this convergence, discussions and exchanges unfolded, enabling the work to develop through dialogue while generating immediate and layered feedback on his research into “red tourism.” We thank all who attended for engaging with and contributing to the process.
