CHERUBY Local Associate|Chenxi Zhao

In May, CHERUBY is pleased to welcome designer and artist Zhao Chenxi as a Shanghai-based Local Associate for a one-month collaborative project.

As the founder of the independent label fabric qorn, Chenxi formed his practice through fashion, reactivating vernacular aesthetics often perceived as “outdated” through a humorous and contemporary lens, while developing a distinct and nuanced visual language shaped by everyday experience, cultural symbols, and bodily perception.

Since 2025, his practice has expanded into a more interdisciplinary approach, incorporating installation, spatial interventions, moving image, and everyday objects. Meditation, Buddhist study, and embodied practice have also become integral to his work, which continues to engage with impermanence, awareness, and daily life, transforming shared memories and experiences into perceptual spaces of encounter.

During the project, Zhao Chenxi will continue his research and artistic development at CHERUBY, culminating in a presentation this June. The exhibition will also inaugurate CHERUBY’s summer program, 𝘈 𝘗𝘰𝘱-𝘶𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘈 𝘗𝘰𝘱-𝘶𝘱. Rooted in short-term activation, the program unfolds through a series of interventions, continuing an ongoing inquiry into temporality, immediacy, and communal spirit.

About the Artist Chenxi Zhao:

Chenxi Zhao is the founder of the independent label fabric qorn, through which he has developed a distinct creative language shaped by everyday experience, cultural symbols, and bodily perception. While fashion remains a central medium, his work has increasingly expanded into installation, spatial intervention, moving image, and object-making, adopting a cross-disciplinary approach to questions of conception and perception.
Alongside his artistic practice, Zhao maintains a longstanding engagement with meditation, Buddhism, and embodied awareness. These influences inform an ongoing exploration of consciousness, impermanence, and everyday life, translating abstract spiritual reflections into works that invite physical encounter and lived experience.
