CHERUBY 樱桃瑚

CHERUBY is a Shanghai-based arts organisation working at the intersection of art and fashion. Rather than treating this meeting point as a boundary to cross, it sees it as a hierarchy to question. It approaches fashion as a cultural process through which conditions of consumption, collectivity, desire, popular culture and technology are navigated.

Founded in 2024, CHERUBY doesn’t start from what to exhibit, but from what can be made. Through production and research support, it gives artists and designers the time, resources and structure to develop experimental practices. Its programme of bespoke residencies, exhibitions and commissions launched in 2025 with Coro de Soles Menores (Chorus of the Minor Suns) by Bárbara Sánchez-Kane. Since then, it has developed collaborations and co-commissions with international institutions.

From its home in a 1939 building on Changle Road, CHERUBY works with communities in Shanghai through public programmes that are rigorous without being solemn, drawing on forms of knowledge and cultural production from anime and fandom to lived experience and grassroots theatre. It also works with institutions, practitioners and researchers internationally to extend these conversations across disciplines and contexts.
