Ad Hoc: Warp

Warp is a participatory performance by Ad Hoc, a collaboration between Paris-based artist Marie Hazard and Lisbon-based fashion designer Constança Entrudo . It is commissioned by CHERUBY and presented at Lafayette Anticipations on 23 October 2026 at 6pm.Following the performance, join us for drinks co-hosted by CHERUBY and Studio2M , where Ad Hoc was first developed.

In weaving, the warp is the set of threads stretched on a loom, the structure from which a textile is made. For Hazard, who works with traditional looms, the warp is the beginning. For Entrudo, whose garments are made without weft, it is the end. Between these two positions, the artists developed the idea of the fold, a methodology through which two practices fold their differences into one another without collapsing them.

Warp was developed during the duo’s residency at CHERUBY in Shanghai. It starts from a 1970s roll of samples with dozens of patterns running as one continuous surface. Here, the warp is an immense roll of threads, and the weft is the audience. Caught in the weave, each garment, object and body becomes several things at once: worn and woven, spectator and material. Warp gives material form to the ad hoc: a textile that exists only through the temporary gathering of bodies, threads, and gestures.

About Ad Hoc
Ad Hoc is the collaborative practice of Marie Hazard and Constança Entrudo, who met while studying Textile Design at Central Saint Martins. The project takes its name from the Ad Hoc Committee of Women Artists and brings art and fashion together on equal terms. The work belongs neither to the artist nor the designer, but to Ad Hoc itself. Hazard’s weaving bridges traditional craft and industrial processes, and she has exhibited at Dallas Contemporary and Espace de l’Art Concret. Entrudo launched her namesake label in 2019 and is known for her “(un)woven” technique. Her work is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2026, Ad Hoc received the PIDA Prize with the support of the Institut français.

About Studio2M
Studio2M invites artists to create and present work in a historic Soho loft, functioning as both workshop and exhibition space.

About CHERUBY
CHERUBY is a Shanghai-based arts organisation working at the intersection of art and fashion. Rather than a boundary to cross, CHERUBY sees this meeting point as a hierarchy to question, approaching fashion as a cultural process through which conditions of consumption, collectivity, desire, popular culture and technology are navigated.
Founded in 2024, CHERUBY supports artists and designers through bespoke residencies, exhibitions and commissions, alongside public programmes that are experimental and rigorous without being solemn. Based in a 1939 building on Changle Road, it works with local communities and international partners across disciplines.
